Manchester City vs. Bayern Munich result: Erling Haaland debut goal decides match at Lambeau Field

Bayern Munich were bothered by the Man City press and often found it hard to get out of their own half. When they did get into the attack, they missed Robert Lewandowski's finishing ability. Fill-in Serge Gnabry came close on one sliding effort in the best chance of the match for the German side, which clearly has work to do to overcome the loss of its star to Barcelona.

Due to the weather delay, the match was limited to 40-minute halves and fans booed when the final whistle was blown with the clock still at 80 minutes.

The two clubs will next return to their home headquarters as they prepare to battle for the first silverware of the season next Saturday, July 30. Bayern will be contending for the German Super Cup, while Man City will face Liverpool for England's Community Shield.

Breaking down Haaland's debut

The new Man City target man brought his brand of center forward play to his new club and it fit seamlessly in his 40 minutes on the field. As his teammates learn his runs and they sync up their timing, his explosive runs in behind are going to be tough to contain.

There already seems to be a connection developing with Jack Grealish, who had the assist on the goal. A swashbuckling forward partnership with Haaland could bring the best out of Grealish after a rough first season with the Citizens.

Haaland also led the forward press for Man City, which caused issues for Bayern, especially in the first half. The Premier League champions were buzzing as a group before the weather delay in the 13th minute interrupted their flow. It proved tough for Man City to regain that momentum given the choppiness of the rest of the match between the shortened halves, the five-minute halftime break, and the steady stream of subs.

78th min.: Manchester City hit the post! It's Rico Lewis who came on as a sub just moments before who had the attempt.

70th min.: Five subs for Bayern to play out the last 10 minutes, while Man City bring on Rico Lewis for Josh Wilson-Esbrand.

66th min.: A sellout is announced at Lambeau Field with 78,128 in attendance.

65th min.: Man City SUBS — Kalvin Phillips is on for Bernardo Silva and Cole Palmer will man the right wing in place of Riyad Mahrez.

59th min.: Riyad Mahrez takes a shot that's stopped by Bayern 'keeper Ulreich after a nice De Bruyne solo run.

53rd min.: Bayern SUBS — De Ligt, Musiala and Gravenberch are on for Sane, Sabitzer and Upamecano.

Man City SUB — Kyle Walker replaced Ruben Dias in the Man City defense.

45th min.: Sven Ulreich takes over for Manuel Neuer in goal for Bayern to start this shortened half.

43rd min.: Haaland is out of the game and Julian Alvarez has taken his place at center forward, and sends a diagonal shot that finishes wide right. Aggressive start by the Argentine.

41st min.: And just like that the second 40 minutes are underway. A reminder that due to the previous weather delay the match will feature two 40-minute halves. We've got subs on both sides.

Halftime: Man City 1, Bayern 0

Halftime: That was a strong half from Manchester City with their new center forward. Their understanding and chemistry stood out, especially when compared to a Bayern side that is still finding itself post-Lewandowski transfer. Bayern lost the ball plenty to Man City press and created very little.

40th min.: Haaland scores, but the flag comes up! Bernardo Silva was offside before feeding Haaland. And a shortened first half comes to a close at Lambeau Field.

It's just a five-minute halftime that we'll have here as players stay on the field.

38th min.: Big chance for Bayern! Alphonso Davies touches a ball into the middle of the six-yard box, where an oustretched Serge Gnabry can't get to it. He remains on the ground in despair. Gnabry is playing the Lewandowski center forward position tonight.

36th min.: Haaland with another chance! Jack Grealish finds him again and Haaland's first-time shot finishes wide of the target. Those two are combining well.

35th min.: Yellow card shown to Joshua Kimmich for a foul on Jack Grealish.

31st min.: Man City with back-to-back corners and they can't convert, though their players are getting to the balls. It's been a strong display from Pep Guardiola's men so far.

29th min.: Man City so far with the upper hand when it comes to possession and attacking buildups. Opportunities have been harder to come by for Bayern.

20th min.: Bayern shot! Marcel Sabitzer intercepts a ball in the Man City half and unleashes a 25-yard missile that finishes just wide of the net.

16th min.: Haaland with another dangerous run, but Dayot Upamecano applies the slide tackle just as Haaland was about to uncork a shot. Nothing comes of the corner. Haaland is causing headaches.

13th min.: We're underway again and Man City get a set piece opportunity with Nathan Ake heading over the bar.

8:10 p.m. ET: The update from the broadcast is that the teams are getting 15 minutes of warmups with a restart time of 8:25 p.m. ET. The teams will also play 40 minute halves with a five-minute halftime given the delay.

7:46 p.m. ET: According to the ESPN match broadcast, the organizers are hoping the teams can get out there again at 8:15 p.m. ET (in about 30 minutes).

13th min.: And just a minute later the referee orders the teams off the field with lightning in the area.
