Goat Island New Zealand Tourism Guide
In the course of my work on iguana conservation, I have
been to many Caribbean islands, both large and small. But two of the bays have
been alive and it intrigued me since I was the first to sail along the coast in
a boat, in the late 1990s.
The Goat Islands, large and small, are situated off the
south-central coast of Jamaica in the Portland Area. They are part of the
protection from Portland to Bend, where the 81-square-miles of dry limestone
forests, and 32 square miles of wetlands, and lakes. These areas are of high
ecological importance because of its large number of endangered and endemic
species that inhabit them.
The re-discovery of the Jamaican Iguana, which in the early The 1990s, the Goat Islands are the place where the iguanas have been observed in
the 1940s. I really wanted to get a closer look at the islands on foot, but
for one reason or another, it was not possible.
Currently, the Jamaican iguana is found only in a small area,
and I am a part of a team that is working to protect and support the growth of
this small population, the protection of the nest, with the launch of the
production process and the control of predators, and for the protection of the
environment.
From the very beginning, we talked about how to create a
secure these people and the eradication of invasive predators on the Goat
Islands, and the re-establishment of the iguanas of them. This plan has been at
a standstill for a variety of reasons that have more to do with the politics of
the people, then, as to the suitability of the island.
Ultimately, the plan is to go back to the table, and it seems
to me that it is really moving forward!
On this Thanksgiving Day, I was in one of the 42 of the
stakeholders who took part in a meeting held in Kingston, jamaica, the
development of a management plan for the islands, the most recent of which has
been declared a national nature reserve. The islands are all of the cultural
and historical significance, as well as rich in biologically active compounds.
Taino and the Spanish once occupied Jamaica, and on the Small
Goat Island, during the Second World War, was a United States military base.
The remnants of the 1940's and asphalt are still present on the northern tip of
the goat.
As this site was leveled and provides a small beach, and it
would be a perfect location for a ranger station, visitor center, museum, and /
or eco-tourism center. Great Goat Island, it would be able to include thousands
of the iguana, as well as the native snakes, lizards, rabbits, and birds, if
they are to be free from hunger, mongooses, and feral cats, and goats. In the
area of mangroves, coral reefs are home to alligators, turtles, and manatees.
Before the meeting, you will eventually be able to land on
the islands and see this great thing, the potential of the area. I know that
the setting is appropriate, but I wasn't prepared for just how big it really
was. I immediately saw a lot of species of plants that iguanas love to eat. The
limestone karstic features a natural environment, and there is also a rich
source of inspiration.
I know that the iguana will be here again.
This year, I am from turkey but I am very grateful to my
colleagues at the Fort Worth Zoo, and the Urban Development Corporation, as
well as the Caribbean Coast of Management as Foundation, for making my dream of
a visit to the island.
